  • Triennial Torah Cycle

    Friday, July 5, 2013
For those of you who have known me for awhile have come to know my enthusiasm and conviction about following the Triennial Torah Cycle. The Triennial Cycle is in contrast to the Annual Cycle as the name itself indicates the Triennial Cycle is completed every 3 years as opposed to every year. The reason I prefer the Triennial Cycle is because it consists of shorter portions which enable more serious study of the specifics of the Torah narrative rather than the typical general overview that is common with the Annual cycle. Further, the Triennial is the historic reading schedule as instituted by Ezra and is discussed in the Talmud, Midrash, Rambam, etc. Following is the Triennial schedule that I have compiled, verified and utilize. It is different than the cycle used by the Conservative, some Reform and Renewal congregations in that the actual Triennial cycle follows the natural progression of the Torah whereas the newer Triennial cycle used by some congregations jumps all over the place and it takes 3 years to finish each book of Torah.
